I often see people talking about the Roth 401k benefitting the big salary guys. It benefits the little guy as well though. My company does not yet offfer the Roth but the do offer the tradional (I'm lobbying for the addition of a roth) but I digress. Lets say your company matches 5% and you earn 50k and there is cap on your contribution of say 5%. There is 2500 from you and 2500 from the match. Well this is far short of the 15k cap. If your the investment type and I'm guessing you are in this forum, you still have 10k before you can't contribute anymore. Other than the Roth IRA where else are you going to be able to take your after tax money and invest it then have the benefits tax free. Obviously its tied up until retirement. Looking at the alternative you would take it as taxed income invest in the market and then pay the capitol gains. Anybody disagree with this philosophy? and why?
